W Hotel, Montreal Quebec
I'd spent too long in the USA, and I wanted a quick weekend getaway. Montreal has been on my list a long time, and Ws are another group of hotels I like to experience. Some great, some interesting, and some make you wonder how they are even a W anymore. So, of course, I booked a few days at the W Hotel, Montreal, and on the weekend nights too. I did well.Arrival
I was down the road at the Westin before this, so I just walked down the street 3 blocks, and here I was.The Room
I arrived at check-in time and was upgraded to a Fantastic Suite complementarily after my attempt to use nightly upgrade awards failed for a Wow suite. Not a bad consolation prize.
Embrace the suite. The open bathrooms always throw me a bit, but seems really consistently a W thing.
Dining
Being a W, they have a Living Room bar/lounge (which was super quiet Friday, and crazy Saturday) plus a restaurant, usually fancy. This one is called Tbsp. or Tablespoon for the non-cooks here.Amenities
No swimming pool, but a former spa that is now a gym with individual rooms for some of the equipment. Interesting reuse of space. There's also the Vinyl Bar and the Gameroom (which was a Kaoroke bar when I went) which are quite interesting spaces in the hotel.
Le Lobby seating
Yes, changed throughout the day depending on the time
Seating above the Living Room, but in-between meeting rooms
Well now, that is privacy concerns incarnate
It is a W, so a drink is expected
Mini? Kinda, but a bar? Definitely
All the things to keep you awake and get you rocking
And the prices - should one decide this is for them
Momo, the standard, but very nice, W bath items
Endless Nespresso
My thing now, when I stay at a W, I ask Whatever/Whenever for a framed nighttime picture of the city I am in
Outside entrance, as this is a place to eat
Not lots of seating, so even as a guest, a reservation is probably warranted
The delightful food
Snacking on truffle fries
Well yes, a Montreal steak for dinner
Wakeup food, when one finally does wakeup
Breakfast through the days, the benedicts were acceptable, but that is my specialty so I am biased
Overeasy eggs cooked southern style - well done W
It's Quebec, french toast is due
The Living Room bar/lounge, DJ is spinning tonight
The bar when not swamped
Once again I see a 50/50 mix of cardio to weight. Nice
Private biking room, with a door, so one can feel secure
The Vinyl Bar with 10,000 vinyl records, and drinks
So many records, only open sometimes though
Now, the game room, previously, the Japanase Karoke bar (when I was there). Still similar vibes
Sing, er, now, game away!
Summary
I have heard mixed feelings from people about this hotel. I have no such conflicts, it was delightful, and an exceptional staff who really takes seriously their dedication to delight and make you feel like you're at a W.Suites, well, this is a must. For a party hotel, you need a party room, and I really enjoyed the large room.
